Pacific Mergers & Acquisitions Insurance Trends Report 2021

In line with a surge in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) activity beginning in Q4 2020 across Australia and New Zealand, demand for warranty and indemnity (W&I) insurance grew to record levels in the first half of 2021. A greater variety of M&A participants are seeking out warranty and indemnity insurance in order to optimise their risk strategy, and in turn, W&I is continuing to evolve well beyond its roots as a private transaction risk management tool.

This 2021 Pacific Mergers & Acquisitions Insurance Trends Report provides insights into emerging trends and key metrics influencing the M&A market based on policies placed for the periods 2019, 2020 and the first half of 2021, including:

  • a significant uplift in the use of W&I insurance by corporate groups,
  • an increase in W&I usage in certain sectors (including real estate, infrastructure and technology), and
  • the increased popularity of W&I to help de-risk public to private transactions.
