Plumbing the Depths: Hydrographic Concerns for Modern-Day Large Vessels

With the Suez Canal Axis now open and the expanded Panama Canal system soon to be complete, more mega-ships will soon be navigating parts of the world that have never before seen as many large vessels.

In “Plumbing the Depths: Hydrographic Concerns for Modern-Day Large Vessels,” we review the lack of adequately hydrographically surveyed waters internationally and the implications for new mega-ships.

With assistance from international bodies such as the International Hydrographic Organization and major towage companies, we cover the current international obligations for mapping the seabed to modern standards and discuss inter-governmental agreements that must be reached to determine the responsibility for mapping international waters.

Marsh appeals to governments to act before inaccurate charts cause a major incident out at sea due.
