Make a Claim

We fully understand that it can be a very distressing time when you need to make a claim.

Please give us a call if you need some advice or assistance – 0800 383 071.

We have a 24/7 claims service for all our Equine and Livestock clients.  If your claim is urgent and requires immediate attention outside of normal office hours, please call +64 27 476 4625.

What to do

MORTALITY CLAIMS

If your animal dies or requires humane destruction please notify us immediately. We will require a post mortem to determine the cause of death. This is a requirement of the policy. Failure to have this carried out can result in your claim being declined.

The Post Mortem needs to determine the cause of Death, or if destroyed on humane grounds the Post Mortem must state there were no treatment options and the horse met the criteria for Death on Humane Grounds.  Please note all costs are the Insured’s expense.

Please then forward your post mortem documentation to our NZ Equine Claims Team – NZEQUINECLAIMS@MARSH.COM and relevant documentation will then be sent to you for completion.

Once we have received all the above documentation a decision on the claim can be made. It is very unusual for claims to be declined, however if any of the above is not carried out it may prejudice the claim.

VET FEES CLAIMS

Step 1

Contact us immediately if your animal requires any veterinary treatment.

  • We will want to know details of the condition your animal is suffering from.
  • Your vet’s name and contact number.

Submit the online vet fees claim form. If you are unable to do so, please contact us at nzequineclaims@marsh.com

Depending on the circumstances we may appoint a second opinion vet to examine your animal. The cost of this will be charged to Marsh.

Step 2

We require the following from you to submit a claim to our underwriters:

  1. A fully completed vet fees claim form
  2. Invoices from your veterinary clinic.
  3. Veterinary reports signed, dated and on clinic letterhead supporting the invoices received.
  4. Once we have received all the above documentation a decision on the claim can be made. If any of the above is not carried out it may prejudice the claim.
  5. We will forward you the claim calculation sheet showing the claimable amount for your agreement
  6. Please be aware exclusions apply to veterinary fee cover as per the policy wording

We understand that in some circumstances the above process is not possible and immediate action is required to prevent the animal from suffering. In this case, we would speak to yourself and the attending vet by phone.
