Marsh Specialty expands UK cyber claims and recovery expertise

LONDON | 28 FEBRUARY 2022

Marsh, the world’s leading insurance broker and risk advisor, today announced the appointment of Helen Nuttall as UK Head of Cyber Incident Management, Marsh Specialty, and Patrick Cannon as UK Head of Cyber Claims. Based in London, Ms. Nuttall reports to Sarah Stephens, Head of Cyber, International, Marsh Specialty, and Mr. Cannon reports to Helen Haggie, Head of UK Claims, Financial and Professional (FINPRO) practice, Marsh Specialty.

Ms. Nuttall joins Marsh Specialty from Beazley, where she was instrumental in setting up Beazley’s Breach Response (BBR) Services in the UK and Europe as International Breach Response Manager. Prior to Beazley, Ms. Nuttall was as Associate focused on cyber risks, data security, and breach response at DAC Beachcroft LLP in London.

In this newly created role, Ms. Nuttall is responsible for helping UK clients prepare for, respond to, and recover from a cyber incident. This includes proactively tailoring cyber incident response strategies, managing the complexities of cyber incidents should they occur, and assisting with the preparation of post-event insurance claims. She will also work closely with cyber incident management colleagues globally to enhance clients’ cyber preparedness and resilience.

Mr. Cannon joins from Tokio Marine Kiln where he had held several cyber claims roles, including Head of Cyber Claims. Having worked in the London insurance market for 20 years, Mr. Cannon brings extensive experience in resolving complex, high-value cyber insurance claims arising from data breaches, extortion events, and network interruption losses.

As UK Head of Cyber Claims, Mr. Cannon is responsible for advising and supporting Marsh’s clients on their insurance recoveries following a cyber incident. Working closely with Ms. Nuttall, Mr. Cannon will play a key role in helping clients limit the impact of cyber incidents on their operations and maximising insurance recoveries on their behalf.

Commenting on the appointments, Ms. Stephens said: “Cyber and ransomware attacks have increased – both in terms of their frequency and severity – over the last 18 months, as organisations grapple with new ways of working amid the pandemic and as hackers exploit new-found weaknesses. Regulation, such as the GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, is also creating added responsibilities around data and privacy.

“Helen and Patrick’s strong backgrounds in cyber incident response, from managing the practicalities associated with shutting down a cyber incident to managing recovery and claims, will undoubtedly be a tremendous asset to our clients as they look to increase their resilience to cyber threats.”

Ms. Haggie added: “Cyber claims volumes have increased exponentially over the past two years. These claims are often complex in nature, particularly where a business has suffered a network interruption following an incident. Patrick and Helen’s experience means that our clients have access to the resources they require at every stage of a cyber incident, and especially during times that can place great stress on business resources and individuals.”
