Marine Cyber Gap Insurance
Vessel navigation and propulsion systems, cargo handling and container tracking systems at ports and on board ships, and shipyard inventories and automated processes, are all controlled using software that is fundamental to smooth-running operations. These systems are designed to be closed to the outside world but highly skilled hackers have demonstrated their ability to penetrate these systems, which is leading to a heightened focus on this risk by the shipping industry.
Due to the presence of certain cyber risk exclusions (such as the Institute Cyber Attack Exclusion Clause CL380), commercial policies will not provide cover for bodily injury, property damage and business interruption arising from a hacking event – leaving companies significantly exposed.
In response to this, Marsh has launched an industry leading product to address the coverage gap created by cyber risk exclusions on policies placed in the London Market.
Marsh's Cyber Gap Insurance is intended to indemnify the insured in the event that indemnification is denied under its controlling policies solely due to the existence of the cyber risk exclusions.
