Green and Greener News: Renewable Sector Trends and Issues
Challenges in the renewable sector abound – the intermittent nature of solar and wind power, the technology and infrastructure required for large-scale storage, policy change, public perceptions – but in recent months the situation has changed somewhat.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) Fifth Assessment Report has altered public perception on renewable energy. The report itself is complicated – sometimes controversial – but it doesn’t sit on the fence. World leaders have stood up, including the President of the United States, the Pope, and, more recently, the Islamic Declaration on Global Climate Change. Hopes are set on the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris later this year, but questions remain. Will the developed world put its shoulder behind the push? Will the developing world find the assistance and the encouragement to join in?
In this edition of Green and Greener News (GGN), Marsh’s renewable energy newsletter, we comment on trends and issues, share our point of view, and challenge conventional thinking.
