The Leader: Independent Schools – Spring 2015
The spring 2015 edition of The Independent Leader looks at a growing flood risk issue for independent schools.
With the annual cost of flood damage in the UK estimated to be in excess of £1 billion, it is well worth ensuring your school is prepared for the worst, even if there are no obvious sources of floodwater nearby.
Surface water flooding is caused when heavy downpours overwhelm drainage systems and can cause serious flooding in areas with no flood risk history. This article offers some useful tips on ways to assess and manage what is an often-overlooked risk.
In addition, we look at the risks associated with independent schools’ art collections, how to assess those risks, and the steps you can take to protect against them. Finally, we consider pupil insurance schemes that many of our clients already offer parents – these can range from pupils’ personal accident cover, to pupil private health insurance – as well as protecting pupils they can also provide an independent school with a competitive advantage when it comes to attracting pupils.
