Meet Niven

I am an account manager in the Cairns office. My role involves advising clients on the risks their business faces and the way Marsh can assist to mitigate their risk. My client portfolio ranges from large clients including car dealerships and a tea packing plant to family-owned small and medium-sized enterprises.

How does your work support Marsh in being the Risk Advisor of the Future?

LenAI, our company’s powerful internal artificial intelligence platform, has allowed me to offer my clients a service unsurpassed by other broking firms in Cairns. LenAI’s support with the writing of my reports is providing my clients with sophisticated information on their risks and options for the mitigation of these risks. Marsh also has multiple teams to obtain support on risk management and advice that benefit my clients greatly (e.g., risk surveys, cyber systems analysis, and risk assessment.)

How has being a mentor, mentee, or both shaped your life and career?

I have been a mentor and tutor at AFL Cape York House, a boarding school for Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander boys, for about two years. The experience has given me insights into the challenges faced by young Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander people. Guiding students through the process of learning to read is rewarding and inspires me in my personal and professional life at Marsh.

How does our company support you in giving back to your communities?

Marsh has supported my volunteering work at the school by donating 10 iPads to AFL Cape York House. This generous donation has had a significant impact on the students, allowing them to enhance their learning experience. The iPads have been used for various educational activities, such as studying Australia's Parliament and Constitution, writing movie reviews, and watching educational videos. The availability of iPads has provided flexibility and resources that the students wouldn't have otherwise, improving their study experience.

Tell us something important about your family or background that helped form the person and colleague you are today.

I am a retired service man, having spent six years in the Royal Australian Navy defending our country. The defence force instilled in me punctuality, self-confidence, and empathy for others. Being at sea for long periods in confined spaces taught me resilience and the ability to work with others. I feel due to my naval experience I am well equipped to be a positive and supporting colleague.
