Meet Deepika

I am part of the Infrastructure & Energy practice of Marsh India. I am handling some of the most crucial clients of the practice and also actively involved in new business development as I like to be in front of the clients making and giving presentations and explaining our role & expertise. Additionally I am also leading the Metals & mining practice for Marsh India. In this role i work closely with colleagues within the practice and outside to help target more and more prospects who are in this sector. 

What’s the most meaningful advise you have received?

I received the best advise from my father i.e. “ On the road to success there are no shortcuts”. He himself is a self-made man and ensured to give similar upbringing to me and my sister. This made me a hardworking and a sincere person both in profession and personally. 

How has your education or previous work experience translated to working at Marsh?

Having done masters in Insurance I was picked up from campus by Tata AIG and worked there for 7 years as Engineering underwriter working extensively in Infrastructure & Energy space. I was blessed to work with some of the best talents and becoming part of Marsh India’s Infrastructure & Energy practice was a natural progression ( although initially transition from an underwriter to broker was difficult). Working in Marsh was exciting as i was bringing my knowledge of subject and product in practice. 

What do you do to make others feel included and create an environment of belonging?

As a team leader I mostly display and propagate a culture of openness in communication, adequate delegation & accountability, adaptability, creativity & empathy. I enjoy when my team grows within organization & personally too. I am very approachable and ready to help anyone and also learn from others. I am very vocal when an individual performs and ensure necessary reward & recognition is provided to them. My experience tell me that working collaboratively and including colleagues always fosters creativity and innovation leading to better results. 

Tell us something important about your family or background that helped form the person and colleague you are today.

My father migrated from his hometown to metro city looking for better employment opportunities. He comes from a very humble background and ensured to complete his education and also give the same to me and my sister. I come from a nuclear family where both my parents were working in government jobs. We shifted locations and i did schooling from various places making many friends. I was always surrounded by working and strong willed women including my grandmother, mother, aunts and sister which always encouraged me to be like them. I consider myself to be ambitious and at the same time a God fearing person.
