Meet Karen

My role as a client executive is to manage a portfolio of financial institution clients. As part of daily operations, I listen to my clients’ needs on risk management and bring the best solutions to them. As part of the Specialty team, I also perform placement duties and engage with the market in sourcing a range of products that serve my clients’ best interests.

What excites you about working at Marsh?

I enjoy challenges, and Marsh provides many different learning opportunities for career development. The learning process can be painful when you find yourself out of your comfort zone. However, I feel fortunate for the continuous support from my leaders, who have boosted my confidence about overcoming any hurdles. I’ve found myself becoming a more mature person with so much valuable experience accumulated during my journey at Marsh.

What do you do to make others feel included?

Seek first to understand, then to be understood. Putting myself into others' shoes is what I continuously remind myself. We might not have shared experiences with others, but we can listen and try our best to understand.

In 2021, I was trained as a mental health first aider through a professional training programme organized by Marsh. The first and most important skill I learned was to listen non-judgmentally. Doing so encourages others to open up and share their feelings. I also learned how to recognize different mental illness symptoms and help provide immediate support to people around me before professional support is available. With the increased attention on the importance of mental wellness, I have become a more empathetic person, which I find the most meaningful.

As a co-chair of Women’s Exchange (WE) in Hong Kong, I am passionate about creating a safe and interactive platform to connect colleagues so that they can feel engaged. Listening is also a powerful tool to create bonding among people, and I usually get the benefit of being inspired by their stories at the same time.
