Meet Jordan

I’m part of Marsh Australia’s sport team, the largest sport specialty broking team in the region, and based in Melbourne the sporting capital of the world. From grassroots through to elites, our team helps provide protection and risk education to Australian sporting communities. I act as a day-to-day contact within our community sport pillar, providing advice and support on our national risk protection programs.

I recently joined the Melbourne PRIDE committee where I look forward to providing support to our community and allies, and providing a voice for all of the letters of the ‘rainbow alphabet’.

Which of our Marsh shared characters — passionate, human, inquisitive, or enterprising — resonates most with you?

Enterprising – as a creative person I like to see the world not for what it is, but for what it could be. I am solution focused and constantly inventing ways to make processes simpler and more effective for greater client outcomes.

How does a hybrid work environment support you in doing your work?

Hybrid working is the best of both worlds; it means I can see my clients and colleagues face to face, which is so important, and collaborating in person is vastly more efficient and enjoyable. On the flipside, working from home allows me to focus on tasks without distraction and ensure the best quality of work is going out.

I also attend university online. The hybrid work environment allows me to jump on to zoom lectures and workshops at the end of my work day without having to frantically rush home. Marsh has been extremely supportive of this and has provided hands-on experience within my field of study, which normally would not be possible without hybrid working.

Is there something important about your family or background that helped form the person and colleague you are today?

I don’t really have a coming out story, rather I came home one day to introduce my high school boyfriend to my family and it was never questioned, I’m grateful to have such a privileged story to tell. I’m fortunate enough to come from a large and very supportive Māori family, traditionally our culture is very accepting of Takatāpui (a similar term to LGBTQ+). In fact, my mum is openly bi and growing up I was encouraged to always be my true self. Thanks to the support of my family, friends and PRIDE resource groups in my younger years, I am confident to bring my whole self to work. By being comfortable in my own skin I hope that others are encouraged to do the same.
