On 15 June, the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) launched the Mental Health Joint Code of Practice (JCOP), a sector-wide framework to help leaders and businesses create workplaces that protect and promote mental well-being.
The JCOP shifts the industry from reactive intervention to a preventative approach, enabling employers to support their people before problems escalate. It responds to troubling levels of loss in the sector and the barriers many workers face when speaking up about mental health, particularly men in mid to later working life.
The work was led for the CLC by the Department for Business and Trade, Heathrow, The Crown Estate, BAM, Mates in Mind, and the University of Warwick, and supported by partners including Marsh Risk, BCLP, and the New Hospital Programme.
Marsh Risk was honoured to help shape the JCOP and advocate for our clients throughout the process. Leading our contribution were Craig Charles, Head of Owners and Developers, Joan Stoate, Client Executive, and Lorna Feeney, Head of Mental Health. We were privileged to involve several insurers in the working group to ensure the code is practical and deliverable on site, and we look forward to supporting our clients as the JCOP is rolled out.
“We’re proud to be the broker contributor to this sector-wide effort to shape the Mental Health Joint Code of Practice. The health and well-being of everyone in the construction community matters deeply to us — we work alongside our clients on their projects and their risks every day. It’s been an honour to collaborate, and we look forward to seeing the JCOP put into practice.”
