As the UK construction sector accelerates toward net zero, lower carbon concretes (LCCs) are becoming an increasingly important part of project design and delivery. From headline‑grabbing installations such as Canary Wharf’s “Whale on the Wharf” to major infrastructure schemes, these materials offer the potential to significantly reduce embodied carbon while delivering the strength and performance expected of conventional concrete.
However, wider adoption also introduces new considerations for contractors, developers, owners, insurers, and lenders. Novel mix designs, evolving standards, and limited long-term performance data all raise important questions around risk, specification, and insurability.
Read our new paper to explore how the industry is approaching these challenges and why early, informed decision-making is essential to support successful project delivery.
