Meet Carolina

I am a member of the FINPRO team, specializing in management liability (for example, directors and officers, employment practices, fiduciary, and crime). I mostly work with large, often publicly-traded companies, across all types of industries. My days are never the same, and that keeps things interesting! On any given day, I may analyze and compare wording from different carriers, discuss renewal strategies with clients, negotiate terms and conditions with insurers, or collaborate with colleagues on various projects.

How does your work support our company in being the Risk Advisor of the Future?

To support our clients and help them navigate the ever-changing global landscape, I ensure that I'm staying up to date with the latest market trends, changes to regulations, social trends, and various macroeconomic factors. Being a risk advisor also means anticipating trends and identifying potential challenges and ways to mitigate those challenges. With my team, we share findings with one another, draw on each other's experiences, and brainstorm together to advise and present innovative solutions to our clients and colleagues.

Tell us about something new you learned recently. What motivated you to pick up this new skill or knowledge, and how did you learn it?

Growing up, I did not consider myself a very artistic person. However, I recently started painting because I wanted to explore my creativity. I watched a YouTube video showing various acrylic painting techniques and tried replicating them in a sketchbook. Painting allows you to practice patience, mindfulness, and letting go of control. Paintings don't always turn out exactly how you want them to, despite the effort you put in. I have kept my mom's advice top of mind – she is an artist and always told me you can't make mistakes in art; there is always a fix.

Tell us something important about your family or background that helped form the person and colleague you are today.

I have found Colombians have a deep love and appreciation for life, and we try to celebrate each and every moment. Any reason is a good reason to get together with great food, music you can dance to, and the people you care about. Our loved ones, whether relatives or friends, are incredibly important to us. My culture and family have taught me the importance of unconditional love and random acts of kindness. You can brighten someone's day with simple gestures; a compliment, a note, or even a smile can make a difference in someone's day. In both my personal and professional life, I treat others the way I would want to be treated and let those around me know what I appreciate about them.

How does Marsh support you in giving back to your community?

After joining Marsh's Graduate Training Program in 2021, I joined the company’s multicultural colleague resource group. During my first year at Marsh, I planned and executed a sports day barbecue at an underserved high school in Montreal. We rented giant inflatable games and set them up outside the school for a morning of activities. We then had a barbecue for all of the students. My manager at the time lent us his grill so that we could make that happen.  

During Marsh McLennan's annual Global Volunteer Month this year, the Montreal FINPRO members volunteered at a women's shelter to beautify its outdoor space. We got to meet and work with colleagues across the enterprise as well. 

These are just a couple of examples – our company’s Social Impact program offers constant opportunities to get involved in our communities.
