Corporate Social Responsibility

We are committed to conducting business in a responsible way, at all times, and supporting the communities in which we live and work through a range of programs and activities.

Our Commitment

As risk and uncertainty change and grow around the world, we believe that supporting our communities is more important than ever before. Marsh and Marsh McLennan share a proud history of service and support to the communities in which we operate and our colleagues work and live. Our commitment to building a stronger, more resilient world is deeply rooted in the belief that we are able to help address society’s greatest challenges when we work together and bring our collective expertise to make a difference. Our goal is to drive both business and social impact by:

Building a more resilient world

The long-term wellbeing of society and the strength of the global economy depends on our ability to create a more sustainable and inclusive world. In 2008, our parent company, Marsh McLennan, created an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Committee, comprised of colleagues across our four businesses, to identify and advance our global ESG priorities. The ESG Committee regularly reports on key metrics to ensure our company is addressing the most pressing needs of our communities including human capital management and cybersecurity. ESG is a critical component of Marsh and Marsh McLennan’s strategy with leadership involvement at every level including the Board of Directors. Learn more on how Marsh McLennan is reimaging what’s possible for ESG.

Partnering for Impact

We draw on our collective strengths to better serve our clients and communities in the face of adversity. Each year, thousands of Marsh colleagues use their business skills to build more resilient communities. Across the Marsh McLennan enterprise, we have partnered with nonprofit organizations in the areas of mentoring and disaster resiliency, to enable colleagues to support at-risk communities. These partnerships also enable Marsh to explore new ways to add value around the world.

Global Non-Profit Partners:
  • Cherie Blair Foundation for Women: colleagues serve as mentors in the Mentoring Women in Business Program, which provides women in developing and emerging economies with the skills, technology, networks and access to financial services they need to become successful business owners.
  • Junior Achievement (JA): our colleagues have the opportunity to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy by educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
  • Missing Maps: Mapathons bring colleagues together to put vulnerable communities on the official maps by tracing satellite imagery. Humanitarian groups use these maps to better respond to disasters and crisis in these areas.
UK Non-Profit Partners and Programmes:
  • Marsh & McLennan: UK Strategic Charity Partnership 2021-2023: As voted for by our UK Colleagues, Marsh & McLennan have appointed Ambitious about Autism as our UK Strategic Charity Partner 2021 – 2023. Over the next three years, we’ll be working together to transform the lives of young people with autism across the UK. We'll be bringing together our colleagues across Marsh & McLennan to champion neurodiversity, inclusive workplaces, open up career paths and become a more autism confident employer. Our colleague-led partnership will offer inspiring opportunities to learn more about autism, take part in fundraising and engagement activities.
  • Marsh Partner Charities: To further support our communities, Marsh has established a multi-year partnership with six UK charities, which have been carefully selected to help us make a positive difference to the people, communities and business areas in which we work. Marsh's donation programme is administered centrally. The Company establishes a multi-year partnership with those charities, agreeing with each at the outset of our association a particular project or activity which our donation will fund, and then working with the charity to ensure its achievement. View the six current selected charities. Please note that Marsh is not accepting new partnership requests at this time. We thank you for your interest in our firm.
  • Matching Gifts Programme: Marsh supports individual colleague donations to charities, by matching up to USD $1,000 (or equivalent) per person, per year.
  • Payroll Giving: Marsh adds 10% to employees’ payroll donations to charities of their choice via Give As You Earn.
  • Sustainability: We recognise our responsibility to do business in a way that protects and improves the state of the environment for future generations. To learn more about our sustainability policies and programmes, please visit our parent company. In addition to the above, all employees of Marsh & McLennan Companies are bound by our Code of Conduct, known as The Greater Good [PDF], which includes a section on "Building Trust with Communities".
  • Inclusion & Diversity: The company also applies a robust Inclusion & Diversity Policy in support of a key objective to attract, retain, develop and motivate the best people in our fields of endeavour, at all levels. Learn more
  • The Carbon Trust Standard: Marsh & McLennan Companies in the UK is proud to have been awarded The Carbon Trust Standard mark of excellence in recognition of measuring, managing and reducing carbon emissions. Empowering our colleagues to make a difference

Through Marsh Cares, our signature social impact program, we provide our colleagues with access to year-round volunteering initiatives and equip colleagues with the knowledge, tools, and resources so that they can lead change  and support our communities. Whether they’re spending a few hours or committing to sustained engagements, our volunteers help change what’s possible for nonprofits and communities.

Employee Volunteering

Our parent company, Marsh & McLennan Companies, publishes a Corporate Citizenship Report biannually. From volunteering to client work to diversity initiatives, the report features stories of the good work our colleagues have done around the world.

Marsh staff are encouraged to engage with, and contribute to the well-being of their local communities. This support varies from country to country and is demonstrated in a variety of ways, including the provision of a day’s paid leave to assist on a community project and having a portion of an employee’s charitable fund-raising matched by the company.
