People Risk Podcast: Cybersecurity

We are living in a time where the traditional perception of risk is changing, especially because of the ongoing pandemic, which triggered unprecedented change in the risk landscape. Organisations are actively putting people in the forefront and are reinventing the risk agenda through a people lens. According to the World Economic Forum Global Risks Report and with the most recent Mercer Marsh Benefits People Risk survey, the #1 People related risk identified in our global survey was Cybersecurity.

In our third episode of the European MMB People Risk podcast we talk Cybersecurity, delving into cyber risks. They are a lot more than just an IT issue: they are a people issue too.

This episode is hosted by Helena Zikova, MMB Growth Enablement Leader, and features special guest Jean Bayon de la Tour, who leads the Cyber Risk Practice at Marsh in Continental Europe and advises companies on how to manage, mitigate and transfer their cyber risks.

Key Takeaways:

We are seeing a big wave in the ransomware at the moment in Europe and across the globe and that has been due to a dependence on the availability of technology. This is really shifting the risk profile of companies and Covid has increased the pace of this change.

The number 1 people-related risk identified in our global survey was Cybersecurity, chosen unanimously as the top risk between the HR and the risk professionals that participated in the survey.

There are two ways for threat actors to perform their cyber-attack. The first one is to exploit vulnerability on the technology itself and the second one is to exploit the vulnerability of people. Both are dangerous and can be prevented by organising special trainings for the colleagues.

Digitalisation have made risks more and more systemic. This challenges insurance companies to propose proper coverage in order to cover this systemic risk.
