Adviser: Changes to the Road Traffic Act 1988

The Deregulation Act 2015 received Royal Assent on 26 March 2015. One area, which comes into effect on 30 June 2015, is in relation to motor insurance and amends a number of provisions in the Road Traffic Act 1988 with respect to certificates of insurance.

  • Delivery of a certificate of insurance is no longer a pre-requisite for the policy to be legally effective.
  • The requirement to return a certificate of insurance following mid-term policy cancellation is revoked.

These amendments and their implications are considered in our Adviser.
