Subject: Risk maturity. Navigating where your risk management programme is and where it is heading.

Speaker: David Stark, UK Specialty Advisory Leader & Global ERM Steward, Marsh Advisory

Session description:

Few organisations have fully effective risk management systems – robust functions and processes that enable risk-aware decisions at every level to inform decision-making and support the achievement of key strategic objectives. Risk maturity models are an excellent way for organisations to see where they are on their risk management journey, to compare their current state to where they want and need to be if they are to derive full benefit, and to discuss the value and cost of further investment in the management of risk. Describing risk management capabilities based on a maturity curve instead of labelling the current state of risk management as ineffective is less discouraging for leaders. But in a top-of-the-class risk management system, can there be room for improvement?

What is the cost benefit equation of these models and knowing when an optimum performance has been achieved? How can these models be used to support the management of insurance? This seminar will help explore the concept of risk maturity models and associated processes and develop answers to these questions.

Date: Tuesday 10 June

Time: 15:00 – 16:00

Subject:  Cyber breach response. A case study – a successful outcome in operational resilience.

Speaker: Helen Nuttall, Head of Cyber Incident Management, UK, Marsh

Session description:

When CrowdStrike issued a faulty update to its security software in July 2024, sections of the economy ground to a halt as businesses were forced to manually reboot their IT systems. Flights were cancelled, payment systems were disrupted, and news broadcasters went off air. An estimated 8.5 million Windows devices were affected by the incident, making it one of the largest IT outages in history. What were some of the key lessons? How does it feel to be a business which is hacked? This seminar will explore how a culture of preparedness and teamwork can play a role in responding to a cyber event. Learn how a response strategy can help a business to turn a potential crisis into an opportunity for growth with resilience in today’s increasingly complex digital landscape. Takeaways will include the latest insights into crisis response, data recovery, legal and regulatory considerations, the protection of reputation, team coordination, and loss and insurance claims management – all based around a live breach experience.

Date:  Tuesday 10 June

Time:  15:00 – 16:00

Subject: The macroeconomic front heading our way. Developing resilience in uncertain times.

Speaker:  James Crask, Managing Director, Global Head of Multinational Clients, Marsh Advisory

Session description:

The experience of the global economy since the end of the pandemic has been turbulent. Whilst strong policy frameworks in many countries have contributed to global resilience, many countries have come through this period with high debt levels and debt-servicing costs. The challenge now is to safeguard macroeconomic stability from further geopolitical shocks, taking advantage of global economic resilience to face transformative developments that require collective action, such as climate change, digitalisation and an artificial intelligence revolution that could reshape the nature of work. This seminar will consider what economic factors will make the greatest difference to enhancing the competitiveness of the UK. The Bank of England wants a leaner and meaner City with more appetite for risk whilst concurrently forecasting a downturn in GDP. Should bells be ringing in alarm or in celebration?

Date: Tuesday 10 June

Time: 15:00 – 16:00

Subject: What people risks can cost your business. Protecting your people.

Speaker: Marc Hewitt, Head of Special Risks, Crisis Management, Bowring Marsh

Session description:

All organisations owe a duty of care to their employees, contractors, and others who they are responsible for. To manage travel in an increasingly complex, connected rapidly changing context, organisations must develop effective strategies and protocols to manage uncertainty and associated threats and opportunities. Lessons tell us the lesson drawn from experience is that no matter how effectively a travel risk management framework is implemented, it remains an ongoing process of communication, education, testing, and refinement. For organisations, knowing where to begin with people risk management can be challenging. This seminar will walk through a framework for travel risk management, illustrating the risk management journey with case studies based on internation travel examples.

Date: Tuesday 10 June

Time: 16:00 – 17:00

Subject: Financial lines in focus. Sleepless nights for Directors and Officers (D&O) – the rise of UK collective actions and other challenges.

Speaker: Karen Cargill, Chief Client Officer and D&O Product Leader (Management Liability)

Session description:

The legal and regulatory landscape for D&Os is dynamic, complex and ever changing. Collective actions are on the rise and the potential impact on D&O coverage is still being evaluated.

A recent trend in the UK, which has caught everyone’s attention, is the rise in claims under S90 and S90A of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA). These claims can arise from untrue or misleading statements in listing particulars, prospectuses and even published information in relation to existing securities. Defending these claims can involve complex and costly legal battles, with uncertain compensation outcomes. The risk of substantial financial losses, impacting D&O policies and pricing, is high. We will discuss the rise in collective actions and how they may impact buyers of D&O coverage and the wider insurance market.
