Despite efforts by many organizations to address diversity, equity, and inclusion — or DE&I — issues, gaps and challenges remain. Considering the role of a diverse workforce in driving organizational success, business leaders should find ways to address persisting gaps and challenges and take sustainable action to improve DE&I.

In this episode of Risk in Context, Santonio Isom, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leader for Marsh US and Canada, speaks with Julie Minor, who is responsible for Marsh’s Southeast zone global risk management client segment, Tara Lessard Webb, Corporate Governance Director at Intact Insurance Specialty Solutions, and Robert Cartwright, Jr., who served as Division Manager for environmental, health, safety, and sustainability at Bridgestone Retail Operations. They discuss recent advances in DE&I, some of the barriers that remain, and share meaningful actions that organizations can take.

The podcast also features Angela Lee, from the Asian American Insurance Network, Omari Jahi Aarons, from the National African American Insurance Association, and JP Navarro, from the Rainbow Risk Alliance. They share some of the challenges their members face and discuss what organizations can do to overcome them.

Key takeaways

DE&I should be a business imperative.

Business leaders should be intentional and committed to their DE&I journey, recognizing that driving change and creating an inclusive culture will not happen overnight.

Solid DE&I strategies enable a broader mission.

Aside from helping drive organizations’ success and profitability, DE&I enables them to better serve people and their communities.

Lack of DE&I is a substantial risk.

Without diversity, organizations risk losing access to the best new talent that can help them deliver their strategic objectives.
