Meet Martyna

As the process efficiency manager at the European Business Support Centre, I define and drive our improvement strategy. I lead a team of fantastic business analysts and efficiency experts who evaluate our current business processes, identify challenges, and create tailored solutions to overcome them. My ultimate goal is to prioritize simplicity, efficiency, and scalability across our processes, ensuring that our Centre of Excellence remains at the forefront of delivering top-quality services to our clients.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

Every day is different, but it always begins the same way: with a morning stand-up that I lead for my team. During this time, we review the progress, challenges, and dependencies of our ongoing projects. This is also a great opportunity to check in with each other, see how everyone is doing and set us up for a successful day ahead.

Throughout the day, I delve into our key initiatives. I connect with our stakeholders to explore new improvement ideas, work on requirements and enhancements with the Technology team, and meet with our senior leaders to discuss our long-term improvement strategy. I also make time for dedicated one-on-one meetings with my team members to discuss their ongoing projects, well-being, and professional needs.

How has Marsh supported your personal and professional development and career mobility?

Marsh has supported me throughout different chapters of my life. I began my career at Marsh in 2014 after completing my university education. I was immediately impressed by the wealth of knowledge and expertise available from the extensive network of experts across the organization. I was fortunate to work in various cities and divisions, each offering ample opportunities for growth and development.

In 2017 I made the tough decision to leave the organization and relocate abroad to be with my partner. Despite my departure, I maintained close relationships with my colleagues, and we kept in touch over the next four years. When I returned to Warsaw in 2021, we quickly reconnected and started to discuss new opportunities. I re-joined Marsh and am grateful to be part of a company that prioritizes personal growth and embraces changes in life circumstances. Marsh represents a truly welcoming and supportive environment.

What do you do to make others feel included and create an environment of belonging?

To me, an "environment of belonging" is a space where everyone can thrive, speak up, and be authentic. We all want to come to work every day feeling like we "belong" and that we are appreciated for our unique perspectives, background, and abilities.

Many of us have experienced feeling like outsiders at some point in our lives, so I try to be mindful and help build a sense of belonging for others. It’s important to be aware of your own actions and the impact they might have on others. Have I done enough to encourage and advocate for people around me? Am I creating a space for others to speak up, share their opinion and ask questions? By approaching others with empathy, we can help build a sense of belonging and give them the confidence they need to bring their best and authentic selves to work every day.

Tell us something important about your family or background that helped form the person and colleague you are today.

I am fortunate to have lived and worked in various cities across Europe, including London, Milan, and Warsaw. These experiences have given me a distinctive perspective of what it feels like to be an outsider. Today it helps me appreciate unique viewpoints and unconventional solutions. Moreover, being open to ideas that challenge my thinking has been invaluable in my everyday work and has allowed me to be a better colleague to people around me.

What is the most meaningful advice you’ve ever received?

A piece of advice that I often come back to is this: When you don’t know what to do, do what you know. This means trusting your judgment, unique ideas, and proven abilities. In the face of new challenges or adversities, never question your competence. Instead, focus on what you know you can do well and leverage your strengths to make an immediate and meaningful impact. By taking this first step and embracing your expertise, the rest falls into place with ease.
