Mining in 10 minutes - Ep. 3: Navigating climate and sustainability risks

Episode 3 of ‘Mining in 10’ – Host Raul Munoz and expert guest Ed Woolcock discuss extreme climate events and how mining companies are uniquely intertwined with these ever-growing risks.

According to the 2025 Global Risks Report, extreme weather is identified as the second highest risk most likely to present a material crisis on a global scale in 2025, as well as the primary long-term risk over the next decade. Unsurprisingly, the mining industry is particularly vulnerable to the consequences of climate change, due to its dependency on the natural environment and long lifecycle of operations.

In our third episode of ‘Mining in 10’, a 5-part webinar series where we explore top mining risks and pathways to building resilience, Raul Munoz, Mining and Minerals Leader for North America, chats with subject matter expert Edmund Woolcock, director of strategic risk consulting and the climate centre of excellence, Marsh UK.

Together they give context to the growing number of severe climate events, how Canadian mining companies at home and abroad are being affected, and ways to build resilience among unpredictable weather.
