Meet Juanita

I manage global client relationships for our largest account segment, Risk Management. I help ensure Marsh effectively partners with and delivers on our client service commitment, continually expand our partnerships, and effectively interface and manage market relationships.

Which of our Marsh shared characters - passionate, human, inquisitive, or enterprising - resonate most with you?

While all resonate, if I had to choose one, it would be human. I feel that human is a fundamental component of my work. If I can evidence the “human” element in the exchanges that I conduct daily with colleagues and clients, then it makes me relatable and approachable. This enables my passion, inquisitiveness, and entrepreneurial spirit to shine through.

What excites you about working at Marsh?

When I look back at my 32 years with Marsh, the two key areas that have kept things interesting are my talented colleagues and the company’s ability to innovate and fill a gap at times when there seemed to be no solutions forthcoming.

At Marsh, you have the opportunity to grow your career. I’ve held nine different roles at Marsh, first starting as an executive assistant and then progressively advancing into different roles with more and/or varied responsibilities, such as casualty broker, casualty manager, team leader, chief administrative officer, office head and now senior client executive. Each role change also opened up the opportunity to advance in corporate titles as well, culminating in Managing Director.

Tell us something important about your family or background that helped form the person and colleague you are today?

Like many a Latina, I don’t fit squarely into a box in that I come from a multicultural background—part Latina (Venezuelan) and part Caribbean (Jamaican). In addition, my family has members representing Poland, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Granada, and many other cultures that have married into our family and further enriched our already diverse tapestry.

I also had the good fortune to become friends, more than 41 years ago, with a couple who is Jewish. Over the many years, our families have fused to the point that we are one large integrated group that benefits from celebrating each other’s cultures. To this day, we, including our kids and now grandchildren, celebrate each other’s holidays.

Having diverse experiences, interactions, and perspectives shapes who you are as a person and as a professional. I would attribute much of my success to being empathetic and open, and accepting of different cultures. Additionally, I adhere to a high work and ethics bar. Being balanced and fair in one's approach and being an effective, if not direct, communicator are key. These skills were certainly honed over the years by my family, and the skills perfected at home have served me well both professionally and socially.
