Building a Future for Hispanic Professionals in the Insurance Industry

In 2020, diversity and inclusion (D&I) discussions have risen high on corporate agendas, driven by both widespread protests over police actions related to minorities and the disproportionate economic and health impacts of COVID-19 on minority communities.

The pressure on businesses to talk openly about and take action on matters of systemic racism has never been greater. The insurance industry is no exception.

A new study from Marsh and the Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies (LAAIA), Building a Future for Hispanic Professionals in the Insurance Industry, provides insights into the state of D&I initiatives as they relate to Hispanics.

This study is aimed at companies in the insurance industry, Hispanic professionals, and the next generation of Hispanic employees who wish to understand issues of inclusion and exclusion. The report addresses potential lost opportunities from not cultivating Hispanics and other diverse talent, and provides advice on how to fix what is often seen as a broken ladder to their success.

Benefits for organizations — and for the industry as a whole — in moving the needle on Hispanic representation include:

  • Acquiring talent.
  • Developing talent.
  • Fostering innovation.
  • Growing markets.
  • Promoting social justice.
